Travel & Visa Information

Essential details on visa entries, transport, Wi-Fi connectivity, and local tips for APAN63 attendees.

Entry & Visa Requirements

Passport & Visa Status

Most visitors can enter Singapore visa-free for stays of 30 to 90 days. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date, and verify your specific country’s entry requirements on the official ICA Visa Requirements Portal. If you require an entry visa, please apply at least 30 days prior to your trip (ICA Visa Application). A signed Letter of Introduction (LOI) can be requested by emailing [email protected] after registration.

Mandatory SG Arrival Card

All incoming international travelers must submit an electronic SG Arrival Card (SGAC) with a digital health declaration within three (3) days prior to arriving in Singapore. This service is completely free and should only be completed via the official government portal (ICA SGAC Official e-Service) or the MyICA Mobile app.

Digital e-Pass System

Singapore uses automated biometric immigration lanes. Upon clearing immigration, you will receive an electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass) via email instead of a physical passport ink stamp.

Airport Transfers & Getting Around

Airport Transfers

Taxis and ride-hailing services (Grab, Gojek, TADA, Bolt) run 24/7 at all Changi Airport terminal arrival halls. Travel time to the city center takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, costing between SGD $25 and $40 depending on peak-hour surcharges. Alternatively, the MRT train station is accessible directly from Terminals 2 and 3 basements.

Public Transit Payments

MRT trains and public buses support contactless payments—simply tap in and tap out using your credit/debit card (Visa or Mastercard) or mobile wallet (Apple, Google, or Samsung Pay). While a physical transport card is not required, visitors who prefer one can still purchase a stored-value card at MRT stations, bus interchanges, and control centers.

Note: Foreign bank cards may incur a minor overseas transaction fee.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

Attendees can seamlessly connect to the secure eduroam network across local university campuses and participating research institutes throughout the event.

Practical Local Tips

Climate & Attire

Singapore remains tropical and humid year-round (averaging 30°C / 86°F). However, conference rooms and indoor venues maintain strong air conditioning. Bringing a jacket, sweater, or blazer for indoor sessions is highly recommended.

Currency & Payments

All transactions are in Singapore Dollars (SGD). Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, but keeping SGD $20–$50 in cash is useful if you wish to sample local food stalls at Hawker Centres. Tipping is not customary, as a 10% service charge is standard on restaurant bills.

Power Outlets

Singapore uses standard Type G power plugs (3-pin rectangular blade, UK style) operating at 230V, 50Hz.
